Paper Co-authored by Young Teacher of Our College Published in Top International Journal

Recently, the paper Mapping cone connections and their Yang-Mills functional, co-authored by Dr. Zhou Jiawei, a young teacher from the Department of Mathematics of our university, and Professor Li-Sheng Tseng from the University of California, Irvine, as joint first authors, was published in Communications in Mathematical Physics—a top international journal in the field of mathematical physics within pure mathematics. Nanchang University is listed as the joint first affiliation.

By dimensionally reducing the Yang-Mills functional on circle bundles, Dr. Zhou Jiawei and his collaborator introduced a new functional, derived the corresponding Euler-Lagrange equations, and calculated some non-trivial solutions. The critical points of the two types of functionals are related yet distinct. Certain critical points of the new functional, which are not Yang-Mills connections, possess other physical implications (e.g., they can be regarded as a generalization of the Bogomolny equations). In addition, the paper classifies the zero points of the new functional and provides their algebraic representations. This research contributes to the understanding of the geometric properties of differentiable manifolds with specific 2-forms, especially symplectic manifolds.

Launched in 1965 and published by Springer Nature Germany, Communications in Mathematical Physics is a prestigious long-standing journal. Its landmark publications include the award-winning research of Fields Medal laureates Maxim Kontsevich and Edward Witten, as well as Stephen Hawking’s seminal paper on black hole particle creation.
